This is a beautiful post. Thank you! Thank you! It reminds me as well of Robin Wall Kimmerer's talk on Reciprocity https://www.youtube.com/wat... and all she says on gratitude in general. It also made me think of the suffering of all the creatures going extinct and being exterminated and exploited daily. How lonely must the Right Whales be...and hungry.
What are these beings' stories of terror and sadness and loneliness in the face of our inability and unwillingness to recognize their personhood, and their suffering? This is not to diminish the horrors of what Chester so bravely entered into, but to be jolted by his work, and to realize this practice of expanding the reach of love and gratitude must keep going until it embraces all life, and their gifts to us whether they be food, shelter, medicine or beauty.
