Thank you from perspective as a person with lived experience and who is also a Narrative Therapy Practitioner.
I've found it helpful when in a depression for people to offer Specific things as my mind can be overwhelmed. Things like, "would you like to have tea and sit together?' Or 'I can do your grocery shopping this week on Tuesday, would that be helpful?'
It's important to also acknowledge that the person navigating depression is not flawed or deficient. There are many external factors that impact depression like: not having support from family of origin, pressure from culture and society, a society that tells us "to figure it out ourselves", gender norms, etc. These factors can influence depression to grow.
Thank you Daily Good for posting about mental health. Here's to not pathologizing, but to seeing mental health challenges as part of living life.
