I am the daughter of a father who had 5 attempts and then died by his own hand (Narrative Therapy Practices preferred term for suicide) when I was 22. He was 47.
While I am grateful and agree with your stated notions of radical self-care, its important to acknowledge, many of us live in cultures and society the vilify taking one's life And blame the survivors for not having done more to help. We need to change this story.
In my father's case, he was so much more than his chosen way of leaving. He was a cryptographer in Vietnam, had a laughing Hawkeye Pierce and was a caring dad. He was also suffering from PTSD and a broken mental health care system and a culture which told him, as a man he "shouldn't cry."
I bring this all to light to say, a lot more than radical self-care is needed.
And gosh, aren't survivors doing Enough already?
How about suggesting to friends and loved ones if survivors tops on how to support?
As a sister survivor, and one who has contemplated taking her own life too,, thank you for hearimg me.
