Symptoms — Black Lives Matter
Definition of symptom: subjective evidence of disease or physical disturbance, something that indicates the presence of bodily disorder, an evident reaction by a plant or animal to a pathogen, something that indicates the existence of something else.
Black Lives Matter and other similar movements have arisen primarily in response to a symptom; inordinate numbers of young black males who have been victims of police brutality. Other related symptoms are racial profiling and again inordinate numbers of young black males convicted and incarcerated by the criminal justice system. These symptoms though point to a far greater underlying problem, one that effects people of color in every aspect of life; economy, education, opportunity, general health.
When people protest the killing of young black people, their protests too are symptomatic of a much greater problem, one that lies in foundational documents of nations and the hearts and minds of men who hold and wield power. We should never expect the great problem to be overcome by simple thinking and means. It is complicated, but at the core it is about the “hearts” of humanity separated from Divine LOVE, their Creator from Whom we all emanate, (whether we believe it or not).
From narcissistic world leaders to angry young men (white in my country) it’s all symptomatic of this separation (sin) from the Lover of our souls. Thinking that we can change things by legislation and it’s enforcement denies the underlying illness that must be treated. And here is where the world’s religious leaders must come together to lead, because politicians have never been able to accomplish something that God alone has authority over — transformation of human hearts.
We can elect better leaders and vote for good legislation, it is a necessary part of solutions. But we had better be praying to and seeking Divine LOVE as a primary response to it all. In fact, that is something every human being can do.
We are all family, we must walk in harmony, blessed to be blessing, if we expect to experience abundant life for all.
