Gratitude helps us to see the gifts. At the same time it's also important to acknowledge that sometimes there are life situations which are truly awful and it's ok to, in that moment say, "this is awful." As a survivor of trauma, I spent years bypassing the awful so focused on gratitude that I did not allow myself to acknowledge that the childhood trauma I experienced deeply impacted me. Yes, of course there were and are many gifts: my level of compassion, patience and understanding of others are 3 of them, however, I also was very very hard on myself and because I had not fully acknowledged the impact of the trauma it kept showing up in different ways. So, yes, let us be grateful for the darkness and let us acknowledge the pain of it too. Thank you for hearing my heart. PS> I am now on tour taking my healing workshop Steer Your Story across the US, it is all about how to acknowledge the trauma and move past it to the present. <3
