“I want to be a member of a thriving and diverse social movement, not a cult or a religion.” Francis Lee
Oh dearly Beloved of Divine LOVE Themselves, Lover of your soul, look no further than your own name - Francis. In Francis of Assisi is a beautiful model of free social activism at work. The critical mass will come as we surrender and submit to the Way of LOVE. The politicized agendas of organizations and cults too make more enemies than move hearts to good. }:- ❤️ anonemoose monk
“Social justice movements, which were originally about freeing marginalized people from oppressive institutions and social structures, have become imbued with their own narrow framework of morality.”
“Tending to our internal landscapes and cultivating wisdom and character is paramount to maintaining integrity as an activist. Whether through practices steeped in spirituality, religion, movement, ancient texts, nature or any kind of higher power, some sort of internal practice is necessary for sustaining ourselves.” Francis Lee
Oh my yes indeed, how true, even perennial Truth and Wisdom. }:- ❤️
I am painfully aware that Christian and Christianity are part of the larger problem! Both the words and many of the people behind them - religion. Yet, Jesus of Nazareth - model of social activism. One who immersed himself in the lives of the marginalized while all the while “questioning authority”. As a young activist working for George McGovern (after jettisoning my faith) I experienced much of what Francis talks about here, it’s not new. In my “second half” of life (late 60’s) I’ve come back to the Way of Jesus, Francis and others - NOT religion, but relationship in and with Divine LOVE. This is where and how I continue to be a social activist.
Yet, I continue also to experience “outing” by some (many?), including those with whom I consider myself an ally?! Anything that smacks of Christianity (or even sniffs a bit like it) gets me into trouble. But I am an anonemoose monk, a Celtic Franciscan Lakota “Christian” who simply has surrendered and submitted to Divine LOVE and walks that way regardless of persecution or praise.
