My wife tells me I am consumed by white guilt. She may be right. I have spent a large portion of my life doing things that may in small measure atone for my slave-owning, Confederacy-loving ancestors. But not because of them. Because I too experienced a little of what they did, actually getting discriminated against for some years in the place I was then living--because I was Caucasian. I know, hard to believe, but very true.
Sadly, I am not the person who needs to use these questions. And those who do, will not. Pessimistic and cynical, I know. But I am now very old, and my life experience tells me that.
No knock on Mr. Vargas, or Mr. Kobara, a great friend who posted his article. But I see only one cure to the problem here: demographic changes. Crude. Simple. Basic. In the end, I fear that is what we humans are.
