Also important to remember, I think, that when they are talking about committed relationships and their protective effect, it doesn't have to be a marriage or similar partnership. There are those happy, healthy, long-lived nuns in Minnesota--they are in a secure, committed, but not romantic/sexual relationship with the other sisters in their order. And I'm guessing that people who have an excellent relationship with their adult children and feel they can rely on them, are also in pretty good shape.
