I agree. Clinical depression cannot be treated by simply focusing on gratitude and on the small amount of pleasant things in life. People who have suffered severe losses or traumatic events have difficulty even seeing or feeling anything positive. Winston Churchill referred to his own clinical depression as "the 'Black Dog' who slinks around the corners of my life". Those of us who have battled clinical depression know the truth of his statement.
