Interesting reading. Mostly good information, but I have to disagree with certain point. The article states: "We have seen that cultures can evolve. For example, we have gone from regarding torture as an entirely acceptable public spectacle and war as noble and glorious, to tolerating violence less and less, and increasingly regarding war as immoral and barbaric" - Perhaps in some countries this may be true, but it seems over the past few decades America has witnessed a resurgence of the glorification of war. Sadly, our nation has been at war with someone, somewhere on the earth for decades it seems, most recently for oil profits. Unfortunately, now we have come to a point where war is so intensely glorified that volunteers for war are somehow considered as "heroes" instead of those Americans who promote peace, tolerance, understanding and diplomacy. The industrial military complex is big business and politicians have no plans to lesson its beastly, ravenous hunger. Who knows what country will be next? There was a time when the people spoke out against war and suffering, but now of days nobody wants to be accused of being "unpatriotic" somehow. This fallacy is yet another lie we Americans have swallowed along with political promises to end the wars. Millions of patriotic Americans love our country dearly, and do not support nor condone the wars. There is an old saying that "truth is the first casualty in any war" and although some nations may have made huge strides in regarding war as "immoral and barbaric" unfortunately this concept has not made its impact upon our America just yet. Peace is a concept that no artillery, drone bomb or machine gun can stop. It is our responsibility as civilized human beings to speak out against war no matter how "unpopular" it may make us, especially in a society that continues to glorify violence.
