There is much truth to your words Reverend Miller. It is difficult to advocate when one is in survival mode. While I do believe the "prize" of integration did much as far as giving us access to an education system, housing, the job market that had been with held from us. I truly believe that the rush to move out of our neighborhoods, and follow whites to the suburbs has done more to destroy us than we realize.
The departure of the black upper/ middle class from our community meant the loss of the people who have the income, and have, in the past, been able to take an organizational role in the fight for civil rights.
That and the damage done to our families under President Johnson's "war on poverty". His mandate that social service funds were only available to families that had no fathers in the house hold destroyed working class families who just needed temporary help during those times of high unemployment. Those fathers needed jobs, not to be run out of the family home. So very many of them them never came back.
Peace to you and yours Reverend.
