This is an important article with suggestions that could save our planet. It kinda lost me when pet food was listed as a luxury along with perfume and ice cream, implying that if we did not buy pet food, we could use that money to improve conditions for all humans. I don't want to debate the value of humans compared to animals, but our dogs and cats are living, feeling beings. Humans created the overpopulation of domestic dogs and cats, so we are responsible for their care. We need to include the non-human animals in our circle of compassion. I'd rather see things like video games and junk food/soda in the list of luxury items to divert money from. Otherwise it's an excellent article with an important overall message.
