As far as I can see, the author carefully talks about the "association" of uprise with Alzheimers but still makes the elementary blunder of presuming causality. She could equally choose to say that a low sense of purpose in life may be a very early symptom of Alzheimer's--and that would be no less wrong than the conclusion that she does make. Either is bad science--although her interpretation is much more of a feel-good story and one that makes it sound like we are in control.
