while i agree with your premise that social bonding assists in recovery from many habit forming medications the "hook" that you speak of may not be addiction. That's dependence.. Addiction is escalating use of larger and larger. quantities of the drug over time to achieve the same the drug over time without regard to the detremental consequences. That is why babies are not born ADDICTED. yes they have physical need for withdrawal support but you don't find many of them standing on street corners ever more frequently. yes, they can require medical support for "neonatal withdrawal syndrome" they are patently not addicted and it makes the recovery of their moms a lot more difficult if you keep calling something addiction that is not
