I believe what they may be referring to is "sense of entitlement" for something coming to one. And I resonate with what you say as well, here's to rowing away from the rocks! HUG!
looking out on the wonders of the world, or even in my own backyard, the beauty of nature, listening to the birds singing while enjoying my coffee in the morning. I did nothing myself in order to experience these lovely things, yet here I am enjoying them and experiencing them and grateful for their presence (and importance) in my life...I think that may be another way to interpret the quote.
