Denoting other-regarding pleasures as "meaning" or "purpose", as is always done in these kinds of discussions, is the same kind of self-congratulatory word-play that makes me want to vomit every time exoticized knowledge and good-sense are celebrated as "wisdom". I have nothing against smugness, but only if it is presented with a degree of candor and good humour.
