Wonderful article -- thank you! I want to say, though, that even Newton's "mechanical" laws are about relationships. "To every action [today we would say 'force'] there is an equal and opposite reaction" means that forces only occur in pairs, as an exchange between two interacting objects. I cannot push on you without you pushing equally back on me. And universal gravitation posits that every particle pulls on every other particle on the universe.
