It seems that you have done already the first step and that is to be aware of your condition: being stuck and limited to your mindset. Can you also realize, that you are identified with your 'knowledge'? Are you aware, that you are reacting to every thing that shows up in your daily life out of your established mindset, that works not much different then a programmed computer? You can't be aware of all, because most of your reactions are caused by your unconscious background. But you can be aware of your reaction when these show up in your expression, reinforced by your emotions and then after some repetitions, you might also become aware from what these reactions are caused. You can trust, that you will encounter situations and people, that will provoke you enough so that you will react and then reflect about it. These are the first steps to 'clean up' your mindset. There are many ways to support this *learning, growing and healing* process. You mentioned it already: You can be more critical about your 'life style' and NOT follow common consumer habits. You probably will be already selective in what you eat and with what kind of people you surround yourself if there is a choice. You can select what kind of entertainment you follow and the best way to enjoy yourself when expressing yourself. Then you might find out, that being in nature will make you feel better than being with people, at least at the moment as long you haven't found your sovereignty. What you can do to get out of dependencies? You don't need to 'step out' of any thing. You can use your surrounding just where you are, for your *growing and healing*.
I can understand that you prefer to be with 'like minded' people, but I can tell you, that this doesn't really works. I can talk out of my experience: Forty years ago I had a similar need as you and so I founded a place in midst nature, without depending on money or anything that makes one dependent on society. There was created living space for about 25 people and also food.
To make the long story short: People came for some time and then left. Yes, they were interested in an 'alternative lifestyle' and also they wanted to enjoy themselves... But it turned out, that there was hardly anybody who was interested in more. That means, they didn't want to change anything about themselves. They all came with certain expectations and wanted to fulfill these and when it turned out that this was not possible, then they left. So there was a constant coming and going over the years and when finally there were living twenty people for longer time and felt content, then it was because they had found a comfortable

They all came with a certain expectations and wanted to fulfill these and when this was not possible, because this was part of their self image, - based on illusions, then they left. After some years there where living twenty people together. They were content, as they had found an easy way to survive, but that was all! They were not interested in any change about themselves and so they were also not interested in the intention of this place and not even motivated to do the necessary work to maintain the place. With the result, that every thing got messed up. I had to tell them all to look for another place. I needed more than half a year, before they all had left. Since then we are trying to clean up the place, what is a long process, as we are only three people left. Indeed, we only want new people who have the urge to go beyond their established mindset and personality. It looks like, that these people doesn't exist and so it might be necessary to close, as it needs at least six persons to maintain this place. I am trying now to find interested people here...
Out of this came the conclusion, that one doesn't need a certain surrounding with specific people, so that you can work on yourself. There where you are right now, is all what you need and you can trust, that this is the best, to that you can relate, learn and *grow*.
Question:
I realize that I´m caught in my established mindset, so the most urgent question for me is, how to free myself. I am living so much squeezed into a lifestyle and in a surrounding that there seems no way to step out of it. What can I do?
