I'm actually skeptical about the credence of the entire article. Take just the tail end. The lower end of the popular spectrum are the nice kids. The vast majority of the popular kids are actually the mean kids with the most greed in their behavior. They gain their popularity through vicious whit and by and large threaten to embarrass anyone who challenges them. What draws attention to them is the allure of their power and what that could do for someone else, but what gives them the power isn't a giving nature or habit towards doing random acts of kindness. It's fear.
