Most people live lives in pursuit of happiness, a few live lives in pursuit of meaning. The latter don't want to be unhappy, it's just not relevant. It's easy for someone living in the US to pile up things, go to the doctor whenever they wish, turn on clean running water in their homes, roll their garbage to the curb for a truck to come by, and then claim they really don't care about being rich. No, they're very content... in their little happy content world of adequacy.
