Important note: indeed a LOT of teachers work really hard to teach and model a lot of these virtues and skills; teachers, though, have an awful lot less influence on kids (not NO influence: I'm certainly not suggesting that teachers don't have an obligation to act as role models) than people would like to believe. If all the OTHER influences in a child's life are antithetical to these behaviors and virtues, truth is that the small influence of teachers will not be nearly enough to overcome that. Sorry.
