One thing I find helps me cut through my daily list is that I've changed the nature of the list.
Instead of a "to do" checklist that reminds me of all the boring details I need to address over the course of a day and gives me a feeling like my life is controlled by lists..., I create a "this is what I want to see happen..." list of more broad goals for the day.
That list might have the same to do items, but as part of goals that remind me of my desires, thus providing me at least a good illusion that I am in control of my life.
That feels better, and motivates me more during the day.
