i like the observation that gifting is circular in nature and hence, the process is done in circle. I disagree though with all the blame going to the poor guy 'money'. It's so easy to imagine a community where there is no money and hence people are dependent on each other....and hence, no money is the way to go. Given that we have money and it has percolated so deep within the system, what can we do? Let's put the constraint that we can't remove money from the system. How can we build strong communities then?
IMHO, money is just a technology which was invented because it was NEEDED. We remove money but, the NEED stays then money will come back, maybe in some other form. This false assurance of being independent is definitely not helping the community phenomenon but, it's not money which is making people independent. Why is there a WANT to be independent?
