I met Mahema, her husband, and Suja their daughter when I was a student at Oberlin College. I was returning from two years working in France, trying to find myself. I decided to apply to Asia House as a dormitory and when I opened the front door, there was Mahema, who literally glowed with beauty and character. She invited me to lunch and I instantly fell in love with South Indian food. I will always treasure my memory of those truly remarkable people.
