Last summer I had the good fortune to house/cat sit in Anchor Point Alaska for 2 months. The view from the deck was miles and miles of trees and in the distance the mountains. Every day I sat on that deck for several hours meditating and then doing my reading/research on that same deck. A pair of Sandhill Cranes visited every morning. That was an additional meditation/communion.
Each afternoon, I went for a long walk on the gravel road surrounded by trees, above me Bald Eagles. On some days i drove to Homer and hiked in the local parks or along the estuary.
I can attest how much this lifted the depression and calmed anxiety. Forever grateful for this healing time.
These days I sit on a small porch and look out over a small backyard. Ah. There's a narrow stand of fir trees and I listen to the birds and watch squirrels. It's a wonderful way to start the day. And then I go for a walk. It's suburbia. But I do see gardens and trees. And that's something!
