Maria has become my imaginary companion over the decades. She writes so beautifully that I eagerly consume her tender wisdom. Kindness and compassion are made visible through actions. Another of my heroes was WW2 M/Sgt Fischer whose motto that I still hear was, "Do it, dammit!" when you're contemplating an act kindness.
