Cloud Appreciation Society

As a child, Gavin Pretor-Pinney loved to watch the clouds -- a fascination that lasted well into adulthood. Two years ago, Gavin founded the unexpectedly popular Cloud Appreciation Society, an online community which now has 5,000 members from 39 countries. At one point, it was receiving more than 7 million hits a month! The site houses photographs of beautiful cloud formations from all over the world, and features poems, art, a cloud-of-the-month and more. To Gavin, cloud gazing is a form of "meteorological meditation. It slows down your pace because clouds move at a slower pace than things down on the ground."
