One Million Meditate for Peace
On October 2, 2006, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, the ancient city of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka is expected to host 1 million people -- the largest gathering in the country’s history -- in an interfaith meditation for peace called together by the Sarvodaya Movement. According to Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, founder-president of the Movement, the October 2 event is "an attempt to transform the collective consciousness of humanity from greed to beneficence, from hatred to love, and from ignorance to enlightenment ... We invite all people throughout the world to join us in meditation, either in their own community or here in Sri Lanka." The event will be webcast.
