"Losing too is still ours; and even forgetting still has a shape in the kingdom of transformation. When something's let go of, it circles; and though we are rarely the center of the circle, it draws around us its unbroken, marvelous curve." --Rainer Maria Rilke
Lost Luggage Capital of the World
Did you ever wonder what happens to lost luggage? Unlikely as it may seem, much of it ends up in the small, sleepy town of Scottsboro, Alabama -- home of the Unclaimed Baggage Center! UBC relieves airlines from having to store unclaimed things after they’ve made every effort to locate the owners. Many of the items are sold at marked-down prices, and many others are simply donated to charity: the center has donated large numbers of crutches to a war veterans organizations, clothes to the homeless and baby strollers to shelters for young mothers. Just how much luggage are we talking about? Around a million bags a year! This CNN special has more.
BE THE CHANGE
98% of the luggage transported around the world reaches its destination safely. The next time you find yourself at an airport or trainstation, make a point of thanking the authorities you come across for doing such a great job.
